Cathy completed her graduate training at Montana State University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Health & Human Development, with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling.  Her counseling license (LCPC or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) is through the State of Montana.

She has worked as a staff member at The Help Center, a non-profit Bozeman organization that provides crisis assistance and connection to community resources.  Cathy interned for four years at Community Health Partners, an organization providing medical and mental health services to the underinsured in Gallatin County.  Cathy also co-led the Survivors of Suicide group at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.   She is currently a member of both the American Counseling Association and the Montana Counseling Association.

Cathy’s first career was as an attorney in California, where she is presently licensed.  There she worked primarily in Family Law, providing support to those going through a divorce or involved in child custody disputes.  She received her Juris Doctor (law degree) from the University of San Francisco.  Cathy also volunteered as a Judge Pro Tem during this period of her life.  In fact, she has always been heavily involved in volunteer work, having served as Vice President on the Board of Directors for Big Sky Youth Empowerment Project (BYEP), as well as having volunteered for local school boards, homeowners’ associations, and other charitable organizations.

Cathy strives to help clients achieve deep life transformation in an environment where they are free from judgment, are fully accepted, and are deeply engaged.  She aims is to guide people in finding flow in their life, so that they can live their lives with greater ease, pleasure, and joy.

Her approach to therapy is psychodynamic and object-relations based, with a universal belief in the importance of addressing the connection between the mind and body.  Accordingly, she integrates strategies from the traditions and schools of thought in which she has received additional training.

What distinguishes many of the techniques Cathy uses from other therapy practices is her attention to the unconscious.  She aims to uncover and treat the cause, rather than just alleviate the symptoms, of the people’s discomfort.  In order for the therapy to be most successful, she will encourage you to work on things you may have unconsciously buried because of their distressing impact.  Her intention is to provide the client, through the therapeutic process, with the support they need to effectively address these buried issues. This means that her work with you might include talk therapy, relaxation and visualization techniques, Hakomi Method techniques, grounding exercises, art therapy, meditation, journaling, behavioral analysis, goal setting, reviewing psycho-educational topics, and/or recommending books or articles that might be relevant.

Cathy has received additional training in Mindfulness, the Hakomi Method, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy, Attachment theory, Mentalization-based treatment, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.  She regularly engages in ongoing training opportunities to increase her skills as a therapist.

Cathy invites you to live courageously and intentionally.
